50-year-old thespian Josh Lucas has recently spoken out almost why, exactly, a sequel to Sweet Home Alabama (2002) — his iconic romantic comedy with Draper James founder Reese Witherspoon — hasn't happened even so.

Lucas told SiriusXM'southwardPop Civilisation Spotlight with Jessica Shaw:
"Look, I would dearest to do the sequel. The consequence is Reese's [Witherspoon] got a book lodge. And I'm saying that similar laughingly, but Reese is, you know, I've heard like, 'Oh, you tin can talk to her well-nigh stuff five years from at present.' Y'all know, she's a mogul."

Lucas went on to say:
"And dorsum when I was doing Sweet Dwelling Alabama, I, for some reason, call up telling the director or somebody speaking almost her, merely I said, 'I bet this woman ends upwards running a movie studio one twenty-four hours.' And she'south fifty-fifty beyond that at this point. … I mean it's boggling and not surprising either, at all."

Witherspoon herself likewise has a soft spot for the Southern romance flick. During an August 2016 Facebook live conversation, the Large Little Lies star said:
"I beloved Sweet Dwelling house Alabama! We are not making a sequel that I know of, simply if Disney wants to call me, I would happily make a Sweet Home Alabama 2!"
Sweetness Dwelling Alabama was fabricated by Walt Disney Company subsidiary Touchstone Pictures, which has been effectively replaced by 20th Century Studios and Searchlight Pictures as the characterization behind Disney'southward more mature films.

"I kind of love the idea that they have really divorced and been divorced for a while and he wants her dorsum. Kind of to realize what he's lost over again and that the kids even, that their lives have separated in some ways, and I think that's sort of the magic of that story is that there's an eternal honey in that location. That bond that they accept. Fifty-fifty when they're apart, there'southward something continued about the two of them. And that they've had information technology since they were little kids."
